Distance Learning Center

Higher Ground’s (HG) Distance Learning Center (The Center) provides a balance of screen time and outdoor activities for underserved children and families in Oakland and the greater Alameda County. The Center addresses the digital divide that exists among many low-income children across subgroups.

HG is uniquely qualified to host your children because we have over ten years of experience taking inner-city children on the hiking trails of East Bay Regional Parks from Concord to Oakland.

We have experienced naturalists of Color who have been working and hiking the trails of the Bay Area for over ten years, strong school and neighborhood partnerships, and programming that increases the use of nature-rich spaces by City kids.

HG provides transportation to and from outdoor adventure programming.

Students will engage with lessons that increase their awareness of the geography, ecology, and habitat that live within the East Bay Regional Parks.

HG is increasing access to computers and the internet by providing distance learning space for students to log on and connect to teachers with the support of a certified HG educational paraprofessional. Higher Ground’s Distance Learning Center will serve school-aged youth.

The Center is equipped with a caring adult that provides safety, supervision, academic support, computers, internet, and greenscreens for virtual teaching. This distance learning hub is designed to provide the community with an elevated distance learning experience.
