LIGHTS ON AFTER SCHOOl 2011

IN HONOR OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

Lights On Afterschool is October 21, 2010! This event is celebrated nationwide to call attention to the importance of after-school programs for America's children, families, and communities.

In America today, 1 in 4 youth (nearly 15 million children)– are alone and unsupervised after school. After-school programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. They provide opportunities to help young people develop into successful adults.

For lights on After School, Tigers Roar After School Program would like to invite you all to join us in a celebration honoring all the work we have done over the past years to bring quality after school programming to our community by joining us in a family style BBQ, where we will be inviting parents and students to speak up and give their personal testimonials as to how After School programming has made a difference in their lives! During this time, we will also be giving out "Save our Afterschool Programs" petition packets to each and every one of our families to sign and get others in their community to sign as well! The petitions will then be sent to our local legislative representatives to show that the community of Allendale is doing their part to ensure our voices are heard and our children are given all the tools to be successful! Join us from 4:30-6:00pm in the Auditorium at Allendale Elementary.

The Eagles Soar Afterschool would like to invite local youth, students, parents, and community members to be part of Sobrante Park Elementary's "Lights Afterschool School". The Eagles will be hosting several activities showcasing the importance and impact afterschool provides for our students. We will be having a Connect 4 Tournament for gift cards for local food vendors, a student vs parent dodgeball tournament, and our always "delicious"  overload of food dishes with our potluck. Remember, each year our state loses afterschool programs each year due to budget cuts in funding, low voting support for programs, & overall political decision-making to cut our Youth's Program! Save our Afterschools!. Visit any local afterschool program and show your support! Afterschool make a difference in everyone and everybody whos part of a "family".
