Description

The Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Service Learning (S.T.E.M.S) extended day Program Assistant Internship position is a part-time 30 to 35/hours per week position with hours of operations ranging from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm with Higher Ground Neighborhood Development Corp (HG) after school programs.  In partnership with Urban Supplemental Service Providers, LLC this internship will teach participants to plan, implement, and assess   Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Service Learning extended day Programming for the elementary school learner.  The (S.T.E.M.S) Program Assistant Intern will provide services to one of HG 5 comprehensive school-based elementary extended day Programs. This is a grant-funded position (through June 2014) This position is a consultant placement and is not beneficial.  All school district holidays apply and are unpaid unless prior notification is given.  There are 20 paid and unpaid training hours needed to remain abreast of the specialized programming HG provides under District mandates.

Under the direction of the Programmatic Operations Director and Site Manager the S.T.E.M.S Program Assistant Intern will work with Site Managers to assist in assuring that programming is planned, implemented, and assessed in the way intended.  Program Assistants are responsible for 15 to 20 students daily along with the over the all flow and success of programming.  This position teaches participants to be second in command in the absence of the Site Manager.   The primary role of the Program Assistant intern is to work in partnership with the Site Managers to implement programming that meets the goals of the site and organization, while working hard with the students and line staff to provide programming to children and families that empower students as leaders and supports diversity in educational experiences through a variety of programming that includes but is not limited to Computers/Technology Literacy, Environmental Leadership, Health, Fitness & Nutrition, Peer Leadership, Competitive Sports, and Gardening.

Duties/Responsibilities (can include but are not limited to):

LUNCH 1:00 TO 1:30

Interns will learn to master the following areas of content within the 1-year placement      

    

  • Attendance monitoring and accurate input

  • Academic skill building and homework

  • Attend, and occasionally host or team leader meetings.

  • Assure all documentation is filled out by HG Teachers.

  • Maintain relationships with the daytime teachers of HG after-school students.

  • Attend all professional development training.

  • Lead a specialty class (art, tech, Eat 2 Live, Community All Starz)

  • Assist Site Managers in engaging & networking with school-based programming to enhance HG student experiences if applicable.

  • Monitoring Ratio vs. Staffing daily brings concerns and solutions to S.M. immediately.

  • And other duties as assigned.

Compensation
  • $10 - $13.75 per hour
